Just after 5am Tuesday Feb 26th, the Volunteers of Liverpool were alerted for a reported apartment fire in the Station 2 first due on Greenpoint Ave. Initial reports indicated a fire on the second floor of a two story four unit apartment home. Police arrived with heavy smoke showing. Car 3 (DC. Manley) arrived confirming police reports stating heavy smoke from the roof area and assumed the Interior Chief role. Car 1(Chief Payne) arrived and declared a signal 99(working fire) and assumed the command. Engine 2(Capt. Warren) with a crew of 6 arrived first due bringing in their own water source. Engine 2s crew made quick work of deploying one line and making their way up to the second floor. Engine 2 was met with heavy fire conditions upon entry into the structure. Solvay Rescue 11 was second due, pulled a back up line and assisted crews already working inside. Solvay Car1 arrived and was tasked as the Incident Safety Officer. Engine 3(FF. Johnstone) arrived third due and began throwing ladders and assisting with crews inside opening up. Rescue 7(FF. J. Santoro) arrived and was tasked with going to the roof for ventilation. Upon completion of their cut on the roof Engine 3 and Rescue 7 regrouped and made entry assisting crews inside with opening up and exposing pockets of fire inside. Squad 2(Past DC. Ormsby) arrived and assisted with interior operations. Companies worked for about 90 minutes due to heavy fire conditions inside the structure. Also on scene assisting units were Liverpool R2/M1/M2, North Syracuse E6, Hinsdale TP6, East Syracuse E4, Lakeside E4, and Moyers Corners Truck 2. The Onondaga County FIU is currently investigating the origin and cause of this fire.
