By 3rd Assistant Chief John Laakso
September 8, 2017

This morning, a Waste Management truck traveling west bound on I90 was seen driving off the road, striking several trees, and bursting into flames before coming to rest in a nearby yard off Long Branch Rd. The original caller was from the Thruway so Liverpool Fire was started. Car 3 (D/C Payne) & Car 4 (D/C Laakso) responded and were advised the vehicle was 10 feet from a home on Long Branch Rd putting the call in the Lakeside Fire District. After C4 confirmed the location from Thruway, units were rerouted to the address on Long Branch Rd, and due to access, one engine was requested to respond from Baldwinsville. Car 4 arrived on scene, established command, and advised fire control the occupant was out of the vehicle and injured. Baldwinsville C4 and E91 were first to arrive stretching 2 lines to attack the fire and protect the exposures. Engine 1 (Capt. Geidel) Arrived almost simultaneously and assisted with stretching the handline. Rescue 1 (FF Johnstone) and Engine 2 (Lt. Cisne) arrived, laying a supply line from the hydrant to feed the first two engines. The fire was knocked down within minutes and the occupant was treated and transported by AMR. The cause of the accident is under investigation and the scene was turned over to the NYSP.

A big thanks for the assist from Baldwinsville at the scene and Moyers Corners Station 2 standing by for us!
