On Wednesday October 4th, 2017 members of Liverpool Fire Department attended as press conference put on by FASNY (Firemen’s Association of the State of New York) in the Brand New Cicero Fire Station #1. For many years board members of FASNY has been lobbying with our elected officials on extending the Cancer Coverage Bill for Firefighters to not just cover career firefighters but volunteers as well.

After many years of work the Bill has passed in the House and the State Senate by an overwhelming number. Currently the Bill sits on the Governor’s Desk awaiting his approval and signature for it to go into effect. This Bill will change the lives of so many firefighters across our State and make strides for the future of the fire service.

This Bill will provide monetary resources to those who are fighting cancer attributed to their time in the fire service. Firefighters have a much higher risk of contracting many forms of cancer that the average person would not face.
