On Wednesday January 3rd, at approximately 2130 hours, North Syracuse FD and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a reported house fire on Rogers Lane in the Town of Clay. Upon arrival of North Syracuse Car 2 heavy smoke was coming from the residence and heavy fire pushing from the rear of the house. A signal 99 was transmitted which requests Liverpool Truck 2 to move up to North Syracuse Station 1. With Station 2 staffed, Truck 2 was out of the door while the tones were still dropping. Because of the quick response time, North Syracuse command asked for Truck 2 (Capt. Ambrose) to re-route to the scene. Truck 2 arrived as the first due Truck Co. and second arriving overall. Truck 2’s crew threw ladders to the roof to perform vertical ventilation to help interior crews get a handle on the fire. Once a hole was cut the crew reassembled and went to interior operations pulling ceiling’s, walls, and chasing active fire in the walls. Truck 2 operated on scene for about 3 hours. Crews on scene were faced with extremely cold temperatures, icy conditions, and high winds. Engine 5 (Lt. Bogwicz) and Car 4 (D/C Manley) also responded as a coverage engine to NSFD Station 1 and eventually were sent to the scene to relieve the first arriving crews and help perform extensive overhaul.
