Volunteer Fire/EMS Opportunities
 

     The Liverpool Fire Department is always looking to increase membership. Regardless if you have no public safety experience, or if you are a member of another fire department looking for a new challenge, there is room for you here in Liverpool.

MEMBERSHIP

     Liverpool offers the following firefighter membership types for those who are looking to have a rewarding, and worthwhile experience serving a great community.

• IN DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP
  • In district members provide a great service to our community. Living in the district means that you are able to come from home to the fire station in the event of an emergency call. In district members make up the majority of our fire department's membership.
     
• OUT OF DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP
  • Due to the location of our district, there are many communities that members and or perspective members live in that are close to our district.   With Liverpool offering the ability for out of district members to join our department, it gives members of the community that want to join a volunteer fire department.
     
• MUTUAL-AID RIDE ALONG PROGRAM
  • Our mutual-aid ride along program is designed to allow members of other fire departments in New York State to ride and participate in emergency responses with us. Once you've been cleared to perform a set series of skills and tasks, and you've demonstrated proficiencies in these skills and tasks, then you will become a qualified firefighter and will perform all tasks along with our firefighters. The skills and tasks include interior firefighting, vehicle extrication,apparatus operation, and EMS response.

PROGRAMS

In addition to the membership types, Liverpool also has excellent programs for those who want to help our organization, but are members of fire departments in other areas of New York State.

• MUTUAL-AID MEMBER PROGRAM

• STUDENT BUNK-IN PROGRAM
  • Our student bunk-in program provides college and other post-high school students, with current fire service and or ems certifications, the ability to live at one of the three fire station's in our district. Bunk-ins live at the fire station at no cost in exchange for providing a valuable service, and staffing assistance to our department. Due to these firefighters living at the fire station, they are able to respond faster to emergencies when called to do so. This provides a better service for the community, and gives firefighters who come from other fire departments who may not respond to as many calls as we do, valuable experience doing so.

DUTY CREW PROGRAM

     With responding to over 1700 calls a year, we pride ourselves in providing fast responses to our community when they have emergencies. In 2019, Liverpool started a duty crew program that allows members, mutual-aid members, and student bunk-ins the ability to pick-up duty shifts at our Station 1. This program brings firefighters into the fire station to participate in trainings, station duties, and most of all, provides a faster response to our community when someone has an emergency.
