If firefighters are heroes, then Jason K. Ormsby should walk around with an "S" emblazed on his chest.

Mr. Ormsby, along with fellow city of Watertown firefighter Bryan Clemons, received a Life Saving Award from the City Council on Monday night.

On Aug. 9, the pair pulled a man out of his burning apartment at 168 Sterling St.

It was the third person Mr. Ormsby has rescued in less than a year. He was working for Northern Oswego County Ambulance Service on Aug. 13, 2007 when he helped two female swimmers who were in danger of drowning at Rainbow Shores in Oswego County.

"These gentlemen epitomize what city of Watertown firefighters are," Chief Daniel J. Gaumont said. "It's been an honor to serve with these individuals for the last nine years."

The ceremony provided an opportunity for the fire chief to talk about his time in Watertown. Mr. Gaumont recently accepted a position in Keller, Texas.

"When I moved here, I wanted to make sure we took care of the people, we recognized them and we wanted to take care of their needs," he said. "With the efforts of people like this and the people here in this room, we were able to work as a team and I'd like to say we've accomplished our mission."
