At 7:58 this morning, the Liverpool Fire Department was alerted to a MVC involving one vehicle into the water on Old Liverpool Rd. Car 3 (Payne) arrived and confirmed that the vehicle was still occupied and in 3-4 feet of water. It was quickly determined that the Heavy Rescue was going to be needed due the required equipment on board. Along with conveying this message to FC, Moyers Corners was also requested with their resources to assist. Engine 2 (Ambrose) arrived and immediately began strategizing the most appropriate method of extrication and what resources would be needed. Once adequate resources were in route, Engine 2's crew began establishing access to the vehicle which was down a minor embankment. Moments after, Rescue 1 (Warren) arrived with 4 members in Gumby Suits ready to enter the water and extricate the patient. Shortly after, Engine 3 (Sanbrook) arrived with two members, also in Gumby Suits, as the back up team. Moyers Corners Car 2, BC2, and Rescue 4 were also started for addition support. As soon as members were safely harnessed with ropes and other safety measures, the patient was extricated and secured to a stokes basket. Crews on land then took over patient extrication and removal from the embankment. At this time, the patient was turned over to AMR ambulance for patient care and transport. With quick thinking and excellent team work, the Liverpool and Moyers Corners crews had successfully extricated the patient and turned over to the ambulance within 20 minutes of dispatch.

Although this was an atypical rescue call, it does happen and we do prepare and train for these types of events. Continued training and interagency cooperation makes calls like this as smooth as possible. A job well done by all of those involved and those that assisted back at the station!
