| On Saturday, February 4th, Liverpool Fire Department provided Car 4(Laakso) and Truck 2(Ambrose) to stand by at Moyers Corners Station 2 while their members attended their annual installation dinner. While there, we received a request from the police to help get an injured deer off the ice on Horseshoe Island Rd. Along with Belgium Cold Springs Car 4 and Engine 21, we responded to the location. Due to the icy water and special equipment needed, Liverpool Rescue 1(Geidel) was requested as well. The crews operated together and deployed two swimmers(Geidel & Schaefer) in immersion suits and our RDC. The deer was located approximately 100 feet off shore. Using our training, ropes and several types of equipment the deer was successful lifted out of the water onto the RDC and was brought back to shore. The deer was turned over to local authorities and units were put back into service. NOVA provided an ambulance for standby while members were in the water. |
